He was made shop leader at
Great Dane / Kolstads .
Basically like putting someone in charge who know absolutely nothing about the ,actual work , performed .
He was good at talking people into things , a gift of used car sales ilk .
When
Doctors Without Borders came in and
Desperately needed a lift gate remounted
Because someone had done a REALLY BAD JOB, installing it in the first place .
Charlie got so SO upset at having to help a worthy organization,
He came storming into the shop and
demanded that I “do a really bad booger weld up “ to get the Doctors Without Borders truck out of the shop .
On another occasion I had to install pintle hook trailer hitches on
Minnegasco trucks .
I had never installed a trailer hitch before.
I asked Charlie how ,
All Charlie could do was , tell me to do it right .
I installed three or four .
One broke off while hauling a
Big trailer holding a Ditch Witch ,
Luckily my safety chain holders held or someone could have gotten seriously hurt or worse .
I sand blasted a lot Charlie got the Ryder truck rental shop to send their trucks our way .
I put in double shifts and sandblasted so much , I made as much money as other mechanics who had many more years seniority, they even got upset by the new guy pulling in that kind of money
But ,
After a year I asked about the air filter on my sandblast suit .
A guy found the filter and when he looked inside ,
THERE WAS NOTHING BUT A PILE OF RUSTY CRAP where my filter should have been .
No one had ever changed it for YEARS !
I had been breathing unfiltered air for about a year or so .
When I finally left that shop to work at a nice new clean shop at
Metro Mobility.
Charlie started calling me at home and begged me to come back he
Promised me better wages .
I took the bait .
I regretted that decision later though
Charlie , LIED !
The guy above him the actual supervisor Don Dass , refused to honor the pay raise I was promised.
I was burned
Why would he do that to me ? !
When I became strident and started to point out all that was wrong in the shop .
( I even got some other mechanics to say they would back me up , they didn’t)
The supervisor held a meeting where
No one backed me up .
I was then assigned the worst jobs ,
In the worst work bay .
I quit and let my new vehicle get repossessed.
PS : a mechanic at T U , told me
Charlie got his own Holiday gas station near South St. Paul.
That mechanic thought I should pay C P a visit,or at least keep an eye on him .

Buddies came by with a truck from his business Ed Greaman ,
He had a very young mechanic in tow ,
Ed proceeded to use the shop like it was his own .
He pulled a full-size semi tractor in and
LIFTED IT ENTIRELY OFF THE FLOOR WITH AN
ENGINE HOIST , it was swinging in the air ,and then he ,
Told his mechanic to get under it and adjust the clutch , putting that kid in grave danger , because the hoist was WAY OVERLOADED .
