Dorothy Day Residence,is a 21st century torture chamber built to hurt people = is what I tell myself as I have been waking up angry many times a week
the noise from all the living units travels on the floors awakening you startled thinking something is in your room underneath your bed, the druggies and sociopaths and rejects from other cities like Chicago or Detroit stay up all night moving furniture parties visitors, all night laundry rooms , like they declared war on the Elderly the Boomers.
They basically murdered my friend Harlan a Vet who did two tours in Nam as a Door Gunner , the noise drove him out of his apartment, he walked away deciding to live in the street instead of here So he got sick dying on a homeless bunk at the shelter.
I was contracted,(by a Elder Care Worker)I had to sign my name to a contract stating that I had to take the housing offered to me or go back to live on the street,
{this was during COVID lockdown. At the start of COVID [see my story thrown to the gutter] a Catholic Charities Elder Care worker took all the homeless 60 years old or older away from the overnight Bunks at the shelter and placed us in hotels then back to CC }
This place has turned into a horror, there is open drug dealing (by what is probably gangs claiming territory) in the O C patio at the area open to the public , a disabled guy tried to sell weed but a thug started punching and chasing him . The designated smoking area for residents has to be constantly patrolled because of drug use and if you are out there having a cig , do so at your own risk =
I’ve had strangers walk up and punch me while I was sanding a woodworking project outside my residence entrance door in the smoking area and a thug lifer threatened me with a gun flashing it at me in the smoking area , he was an associate of a resident who is from Detroit and likes fishing .
The food bank gives away food that has long ago expired like it was pulled from a dumpster.
in many ways similar to a prison where if you appear isolated or not affiliated and participating in street level things like buying their drugs , you best at least not wander the hallways or hang out in the wrong areas , some vulnerable guys come back with their pockets literally torn open wallets missing.
More recently street gang imports from Detroit ,Chicago and other cities even NY are openly selling drugs on the OP ctr. Patio
The usual (I guess I don’t participate) sex for sale street level stuff but with a big city gang land threat right in the hallways and rooms , some residents lend out their apartments entrance fob’s and room keys to traffickers
There is a nonresident (who has verbally declared to seriously hurt anyone who questions him he then continues to Bragg about his reputation for messing people up). He has been bringing the loudest biggest portable amp to the only place Catholic Charities provides meals and shelter for the disabled homeless and Vets , this is until this week when he showed up at 8:33 am and started blasting music , someone must have been threatened and hurt because several first responders showed up with police and the loud music stopped now for several days
Obvious posturing gangland posturing claiming the area the poor and vulnerable thought was a refuge and place to seek help and encouragement + = now it is literally scary and dangerous.
The staff decided to make it easier for residents to get to every floor by turning the entry fobs into universal fobs that let you go to all the floors and all stairwells doors 24 hours a day making drug dealers happy and sex traffickers happy, for 6 +years access was more controlled , when I first got here the motion sensors on the lights actually kept. The hallway lights off at night, but not anymore there is so much traffics in this building that the lights never go off
Case worker asked for me to sign papers so they could track me she said “ Like where is Glen “ this I refused, but it has stuck with me tormenting me why would they ask such a thing ?
Is Catholic Charities really a prison for the unwanted, am I being watched anyway ?
C C hired security and when I talked to one of them he literally said
“ we know everything about Glen Krueger” What ??! That’s more psychological torture!
Who or more importantly what is catholic charities? My fourth case worker in as many years looks just like a gal that was participating in the G F riots burning down the midway >
>{I was trying to go shopping at Cub when this black SUV came speeding from Target after looting it got a good look at the driver as she almost ran me over and yelled for me to get out of the way , my new current C C case worker looks just like that driver ,They and a dozen or so underage kids then proceeded to burn down the strip mall where my barbers were , {haven’t cut my hair since}<
I was forced to endure two huge commercial grade fans for four days nonstop , a CC staff (looked like liberal brat got hostile with me when I stared to question the noise of the fans he even went in to say how great these facilities are, I asked if I would be moved out of my apartment during the drying out but got the runaround, they told me it wasn’t their decision and if I interfered with or unplugged the drying units I would be held accountable and the units were being monitored,
I need to get a lawyer now because I believe after four days of noise so loud I couldn’t hear myself think =
I have permanent hearing loss in my 68 year old ears my ears ring almost constantly so it’s more than a hearing loss it’s torturous.
The staff is constantly Turing over so new staff basically has no idea who is a resident or not , there are many predators squatting here and extorting people/residents to get their entry fobs and apartment keys . some residents constantly lose their keys and fobs , really just giving them to others who use this place to either hide from the law , deal drugs or traffic sex. The entrance is poorly monitored and only occasionally will the front desk ask or check to see if who is coming into our home actually lives here and pays rent (the Opportunity Center is much more safe in this respect) That makes this place dangerous and it has gotten worse over the three years since I moved in.
I even afraid to visit my second case worker L , because last time she kept getting a nasty grimace in her face and then grabbed her sweatshirt and pulled it closed over her chest , acting like I was staring at her chest , I was not ,and now I don’t want to be around her if she is setting me up as a perverse person.
One of the many front desk guy C , called me a liar instead of listening to my concerns, and then accused me of banging on the walls , he later started to talk about me (I was just a couple feet from him !) while I was checking my mail box , he was talking to a big guy ( nonresident) saying I was one of those problems he was dealing with.
1.The front desk staff is our only resource for getting help with the building and our hone maintenance, 2.It is also our only channel for addressing complaints about the safety and abusive behavior in our homes building , 3.the front desk is also responsible for calling security personnel to address immediate safety risks and. 4. the front desk is also responsible for keeping the entry way doors and front safe from nonresidents activity and 5. making sure only residents and and their registered guests get into the residence. It is staffed by one person most of the time and
*6. The front desk is way back far from the entrance doors and the staff person is blocked by several monitors and 7. constantly distracted by taking all the calls from the hundreds of residents living here
So criminals and predators and drug dealers and sex traffickers are able to easily get into our homes . As the main staircase is wide open right by the entrance doors and the two elevators are right near the entrance also therefore just a little distraction and any one can get in , catching the doors open as people come and go then going up the staircase or hopping on the elevator as it is used by residents.
Catholic Charities is more vigilant in monitoring who eats a meal in their Opportunity Center as the *staff there is right in the vestibule between the two entryway doors checking everyone for an id . Where in the residence where we pay a third of our income to live , no id check and the desk is way in the back against the far wall .
A very scary place to live . People are found dead in their apartments all the time = O D deaths = I call the people selling fentanyl = serial killers =between the three residential buildings, about 7 people a week are found dead, and the police don’t even bother to investigate the deaths if they appear to be overdose related.
Also there is city cop that kinda runs the place and he comes in regularly takes all the recordings of the security cameras and makes them disappear.
The building was not built to legal residential building codes , ( don’t know how the contractor got away with that) in the Higher Ground residence I heard the ceilings weren’t finished = like the contractor just ran out of funding and walked away.
the floors amplifies all the sounds of everything going on in each floor such as dropping objects and moving furniture you get startled awake several times a night and sadistic sociopaths deliberately tormented their neighbors.
The exhaust vents are tiny little plastic flexible hoses and don’t really vent air at all , they by code should be metal duct work .
The plumbing in the kitchen and bathroom sinks drains is not vented properly and sometimes the traps are vacuumed out letting sewer gasses enter the living unit , so I make sure the drains are plugged at all times.
some units need to keep their shades closed because the air system can’t keep up cooling on the south facing units
The underside of the floors are not soundproofed at all or fireproofed, so all the noise from above is heard also , this and the other noise makes sleep at night very difficult if not impossible, as the lifestyle of most of the residents is = sleep all day party / stay up all night.
The Higher Ground residence got so moldy some residents had to move to my building
A lot could be improved here , and for me to seem ungrateful for a place to live is not an issue. I just have a life long MH disability and several traumatic experiences , my criminal history is more of a lack of money to buy good counseling and the fact that I ended up living here is very unjust and the record that keeps me from finding good housing is totally a bad legal system that was misused by people who wanted to get me out of the way , I was held without bail until evicted for nonpayment of rent , then released thrown to the gutter in the middle of winter.
I Did not do what I pled guilty to . I plead out to try and save my room my home at that time and save many plants growing there . The public defender quit on me and a secretary told me “ we are going to carry your plea “
P S ; about 1/2 the population in these supportive housing building are healthy military age people from other states other big cities = you make what you want with that statement .
